Summary:

Provide general linguistic support for military operations and interpret during interviews, meetings and conference.
 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Interpret, transcribe, and analyze verbal communications.
  • Scan, research, and analyze foreign language documents for key information.
  • Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Submit intelligence information reports and supporting graphics derived from translation activities to the customer in a timely manner.
  • Maintain an awareness of all pertinent intelligence requirements levied by United States Army Southern Command and other agencies.
  • Translate intermediate to advanced level printed materials including technical manuals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations and foreign language periodicals into grammatically correct English.
  • Transcribes and translates foreign language audio files into English with correct syntax.
  • Prepare and update databases of translated source material and draft product reports.
  • Operate customer furnished monitor/recording equipment.
  • Scan intercepted data and determine as pertinent or non-pertinent to mission requirements.
  • Participate in analytical meetings or conferences when applicable and present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Provide quality control of junior linguist transcribed and translated material.
  • Other duties may be assigned to meet mission needs.
 
 

Supervision:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Possess a strong command of English and Dari / Pashtu languages.

Education and/or Experience:


Non-Native Linguists
require a BA/BS or equivalent and five to seven years of relevant experience, graduate of the Defense Language Institute with a recent DLPT of 3/3 or higher in Pashtu/Dari or a 3/3 on the Interagency Language Roundtable.


Native Linguists
require native level skills and five to seven years of experience with a recent DLPT of 3/3 or higher in English or a 3/3 on the Interagency Language Roundtable.

 

Computer Skills:

Must have knowledge of a variety of computer software applications and ability to prepare and
transmit correspondence to Headquarters. Create and maintain administrative databases.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, Clearance:
U.S. Citizen and Active TS/SCI


Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple and shifting priorities.
  • Ability to prioritize and complete difficult assignments.
  • Must have excellent command of the English language.
  • Must have the ability to work nights, weekends and Holidays as required.


Other Requirements:

  • OCONUS: Demands will vary according to work environment.
  • Often work schedule will require 12 hour days, 7 days a week when working in harsh environments and require strict medical and dental screening before deployment overseas.
  • Valid US Passport. All personnel obtain and maintain the necessary travel documents (i.e., passport, travel documents, visas, country clearances, works permits, etc.).
